Chris McGehee
I was born in East Tennessee but we moved around a lot so I can say I grew up in Tennessee and Virginia and California. I work as a hydrologist for the National Weather Service, at the Southeast River Forecast Center outside of Atlanta.
Before, I was service hydrologist at the Weather Forecast Office in Fairbanks, Alaska for five years, and before that I interned at the New Orleans/Baton Rouge WFO in Slidell, Louisiana—but I missed Hurricane Katrina by 11 years.
Today I live in Coweta County, Georgia with my husband Kevin, our four cats Taz, Suzie Q, Mickie and Sophie, and our dog Lucy.
I’m a “ham,” call sign KLØUD, and belong to Women of the Moose and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Kevin here, taking an opportunity to brag a little about Chris, since she won't do it herself.
July 2011
Chris has been named SERFC's Decision Support Focal Point -- which involves providing emergency managers and others with information they need about expected river behavior, so they can make the decisions they have to make.
January 2011
Chris is in Mississippi State University's online Applied Meteorology graduate program.
August 31, 2010
Chris' father, Vaughn Moore, was sworn in as county mayor today in a crowded courtroom in Newport, Tennessee -- with Chris and me in the crowd. Starting tomorrow, Vaughn will serve a four-year term as the chief of the county government's executive branch.
April 2010
Chris was awarded NOAA's 2009 Bronze Medal (PDF), for developing and implementing the National Weather Service High Water Mark Sign program -- which has now become a permanent function at the national level.
